The person I admire

One of the people I admire is the Chilean folklorist Violeta Parra. She was born on October 4th, 1917, in the region of Ñuble. At the age of 10, Violeta started playing guitar and singing with her brothers Hilda, Eduardo and Roberto. Twenty years later, when she was 37 and accompanied by her children, she began to tour all over the country. In addition, with his brother Nicanor Parra, she begins to rescue, investigate and compile Chilean folk music. To that, she dedicates great part of her life. Years later, she installs a tent in the commune of La Reina, to turn it into a center of folkloric culture. In that same tent, Violeta shot herself in the head; however, in one of the letters she sent to her brother Nicanor, she stated: "I do not kill myself for love. I do it for the pride that overwhelms the mediocre". In addition to what I mentioned previously, Violeta wrote numerous songs that speak of poverty, justice, love, revolution, Chilean folklore, among others. She als...

A Photography I like

This picture is taken by me, near the Santa Lucia subway. I remember that it was about 32° and I was melting in heat, but I was extremely happy to be surrounded by strong and powerful women. It shows the march of March 8th, 2020, in which about two million women marched. That day, we women went out to the streets to demand a safe, free, and u nrestricted abortion, an end to the violations of our human rights; that they stop killing us, raping us, kidnapping  us, among o thers issues. I like this photo for many reasons; first, it shows  that we are many and that no man or oppressive state will silence us. I also like it because all those hands up there remind me how safe I felt among them all, even when I was wearing very few clothes; I felt that no one was sexualizing my body.  Finally, that picture makes me feel proud to be a feminist and inspires me to keep fighting for a future where all women are more respected. I am not alone in this fight and that pic...

My favorite piece of technology

My favorite technological device is my record player. My mom gave it to me when I was 16 years old, and on  that year I started listening to different musical styles: classical, a lot of rock, pop and others. My grandmother gave me many record players from the 1950s, which still work! I listen to it every week, When I’m chilling in my room or while I studying, also sometimes I take it to the kitchen while I’m cooking with my family so we can all listen music from it. I like it because the songs sound different compared to a common speaker, also because the records are beautiful and it requires a delicate process to play them. Honestly, I don't think it is an indispensable object in my life, but it has a very important emotional value, because it was given to me by my mother and most of the vinyl I have are from my grandmother.
