Blog 2: The best concert

Hello everyone, in this blog I will talk about one of the best concerts I have ever been to.   In 2018, I went to a Los Tres concert with Chico Trujillo. I spent an incredible time. That day I planned to be with five friends who like jazz as much as I do, their names were: Nicolas, Pollo, Freddy, Rochi and China. When I arrived at the concert spot, there were too many peopl e , I thought I would never be able to meet up with my Friends at the área we agreed, But ended up meeting them. The concert started with the typical song: Amor violento. But when they started to change the rhythm of the melody to a much more moving one, all the people who were there started to dance and jump. I remember that I danced Torre de Babel as I never imagined. People were throwing beers in the air, people were pushing each other, it was too much fun. I remember that at one moment Álvaro Enríquez began to say a few words to the public, and when he finished speaking, the audience raised their ...

A country I would like to visit

Hi everyone, In this blog I'm going to talk about a country I would like to visit.  There are many places I'd like to meet, one of them is the Amazon. I would like to go as soon as possible; before the big business and global warming destroys all the flora and fauna that abounds in that place. I feel that it is a territory that will soon lose all the natural wealth that it has left, because it is one of the few green spots left on the planet.   The Amazon rainforest is the largest in the world and occupies 40% of Latin America, located between the countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, French Guyana and Suriname. The Amazon River is very long and abundant. In addition, there is a great diversity of flowers, trees and animals: tocans, turtles, frogs, jaguar, manti, eagles, etc. In this beautiful place, live indigenous folk, for example: Nahúa, Korubos, Yurí and more. They have a completely different way of relating to the environment and l...

A subject I’ve enjoyed studying this semester

The subject that I like the most this term (because I still have a month and a half to go on vacation) is social psychology. In the first classes, we talked about critical social psychology. I found this topic very interesting because I feel that as a social science student I must have a critical stance towards opinions, studies, people and my environment in general. One of the most important approaches in critical social psychology is that the social and the individual are created from social interaction. This point is very important, because at the moment of giving an opinion, observing or studying a fact or individual, it should not be separated from its context. We have lectures, but also workshops in which we can talk and ask questions about the contents or texts we have read. Each content we see, we associate it with a current example in our daily reality. I like the subject because of everything I said before, I also love what I have learned over these months. I feel...

The person I admire

One of the people I admire is the Chilean folklorist Violeta Parra. She was born on October 4th, 1917, in the region of Ñuble. At the age of 10, Violeta started playing guitar and singing with her brothers Hilda, Eduardo and Roberto. Twenty years later, when she was 37 and accompanied by her children, she began to tour all over the country. In addition, with his brother Nicanor Parra, she begins to rescue, investigate and compile Chilean folk music. To that, she dedicates great part of her life. Years later, she installs a tent in the commune of La Reina, to turn it into a center of folkloric culture. In that same tent, Violeta shot herself in the head; however, in one of the letters she sent to her brother Nicanor, she stated: "I do not kill myself for love. I do it for the pride that overwhelms the mediocre". In addition to what I mentioned previously, Violeta wrote numerous songs that speak of poverty, justice, love, revolution, Chilean folklore, among others. She als...

A Photography I like

This picture is taken by me, near the Santa Lucia subway. I remember that it was about 32° and I was melting in heat, but I was extremely happy to be surrounded by strong and powerful women. It shows the march of March 8th, 2020, in which about two million women marched. That day, we women went out to the streets to demand a safe, free, and u nrestricted abortion, an end to the violations of our human rights; that they stop killing us, raping us, kidnapping  us, among o thers issues. I like this photo for many reasons; first, it shows  that we are many and that no man or oppressive state will silence us. I also like it because all those hands up there remind me how safe I felt among them all, even when I was wearing very few clothes; I felt that no one was sexualizing my body.  Finally, that picture makes me feel proud to be a feminist and inspires me to keep fighting for a future where all women are more respected. I am not alone in this fight and that pic...

My favorite piece of technology

My favorite technological device is my record player. My mom gave it to me when I was 16 years old, and on  that year I started listening to different musical styles: classical, a lot of rock, pop and others. My grandmother gave me many record players from the 1950s, which still work! I listen to it every week, When I’m chilling in my room or while I studying, also sometimes I take it to the kitchen while I’m cooking with my family so we can all listen music from it. I like it because the songs sound different compared to a common speaker, also because the records are beautiful and it requires a delicate process to play them. Honestly, I don't think it is an indispensable object in my life, but it has a very important emotional value, because it was given to me by my mother and most of the vinyl I have are from my grandmother.

Why did you choose this career?

When I was little I loved to dance, I wanted to be a dancer or an actress. When I was ten years old I wrote a script for a small video in which my brother and I acted. I still want to study theater and I hope to achieve that dream someday. During high school I was a scientist, I loved biology. But little by little I began to like philosophy and history more, but beause I chose to go to the scientific path, I didn’t get the opportunity to take any of those courses . W hen I entered to Bachillerato I chose to be a humanist and I loved it, I fell in love with psychology and all its implications. U niversity of Chile has been a great change for me. There is a very pleasant and respectful atmosphere there, but sometimes I feel that I am very far from reality. I love my classes and my professors because you can tell they like to teach. I would like to be like them one day and teach phychology with enthusiasm.
